29./30. June 2009: Bone and Soft Tissue
Outstanding preparation - practically relevant program

The course took place over two eventful days in Heidelberg and made the 25 or so participants aware of the challenging topic, both in presentations and in practical hands-on exercises. The language for the presentations was English, as numerous registrations from abroad had been received. Dr. Fred Bergmann and Dr. Marius Steigmann shared the presentations, which expanded the spectrum for the participants.

Great praise was expressed for the perfect mix between theory and practice. The participants were able to practice on a pig's jaw, as taught in theory in advance. Dr. Dahl's comment for this event: “It was outstandingly well prepared. Through the practical exercises I was able to put much of the new knowledge into practice straightaway in my surgery.“

6. June 2009: Bone Management, Course 1

This mainly covered minimally invasive alternatives to classical bone spreading and bone splitting. The course language was German; Dr. Fred Bergmann led the day's program as speaker.

The focus here was also on practical work with a live surgical procedure in the morning and with workshops and hands-on exercises in the afternoon. The work on animal preparations gave rise to a good feeling among the participants for the spreading instruments used from the Split Control and Crest Control Bone Management® systems. Work with a piezo device further rounded off the experience gained.

24. June 2009: Meeting of the "Berg Strasse" Study Group

The "Berg Strasse" Study Group meets regularly with up to four meetings a year, either in Dr. Bergmann's surgery or in the nearby NH Hotel. Interest was also very high on the 24th of June. This was mainly a result of the presentation topics Dr. Rotharmel and Dr. Bergmann had selected. From his perspective as an oral and maxillo-facial surgeon, Dr. Rotharmel discussed the topic "Autogeneous bone versus alloplastic material – which is the gold standard?".

Dr. Bergmann spoke on a topic with diverse aspects: "Diagnostics and surgery of prosthetic relevance". This focussed on minimal-invasive implantology using 3D diagnostics and creative surgery for the prosthetic dentist. Then there was the topic of surgical partnerships and an outlook towards further advanced training activities. The tremendous response showed that practically relevant and contemporary topics were on the agenda, which introduce new impetus to the close collaboration between the surgeon and prosthetic dentist. Comment: "Outstanding background knowledge and practical tips for my work."
